Last week in our study, we examined the letter to the Church of Ephesus. The Church there had
“lost their first love” (Rev. 2:4) and had deteriorated from serving Christ out of devotion, to simply serving
out of some dutiful obligation. There is a major difference between duty and devotion. Duty will only take
a person so far, but devotion will lead someone to follow even unto death, if necessary.
