Thyatira was an inland city located just forty miles east of Pergamum. It was built by the Greeks
shortly after the time of Alexander The Great. The city had no natural defenses for it was located on a
valley road, thereby leaving it exposed from every side. Thyatira had been intended to serve as a barrier
of defense between those who would try to invade the city of Pergamum from the east. Because of its
precarious placement on flat open ground, the city had been destroyed and rebuilt several times before
